Admissions and Application Process

The UCI Anesthesiology Residency Program accepts applicants through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

2024-2025 Applicants

This year we will be using the Residency Central Application and ERAS for our review process.

The Central Application (CentralApp) was started as a low-cost alternative to ERAS in plastic surgery and it is now used specialty-wide. We hope that in future years, CentralApp will remove the financial barriers created by progressive application fee structures. There is no cost to use the CentralApp. In addition, as you will see from the questions, CentralApp also promotes holistic application review by focusing on quality application content rather than quantity.

Upon accessing CentralApp, you will be instructed to create a secure account. From there, you can request letters of recommendation, transcripts, and MSPE (Dean's Letters) directly through the portal. The Match will remain with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Please direct any questions about CentralApp to HELP@accessgme.com.

Applications are reviewed from September to October. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview. After all interviews are complete, candidates will be ranked, and a rank list will be submitted to the NRMP.

Applicants will need to submit:

  • Completed ERAS application
  • Completed Central Application
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
  • USMLE Transcript (Part I)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Three letters of recommendation

Candidates interested in the Innovative Anesthesiology-Critical Care Education Program need to apply through ERAS and CentralApp. One PGY-1 position will be offered through ERAS. Applications will be reviewed by the recruitment committee along with critical care faculty members from the department.

Interviews

Interviews are typically held in October, November, and December. Candidates will have ample opportunity to speak with residents and faculty who can share more information about the residency program, UCI School of Medicine, UCI Health, and life in Orange County.
