Medical Student Clerkships

Anesthesiologists in the operating room

We are dedicated to promoting medical student involvement in the anesthesiology clinical practice and offer several different clinical education opportunities.

The UCI Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care offers clinical educational opportunities to medical students. Our group of faculty, residents and staff recognize that medical student education is an integral component in the advancement of the department and the anesthesiology specialty.

We are happy you have taken interest in our elective clinical clerkships.

Medical Student Clerkships

Our anesthesiology clerkships have been designed to provide medical students with a solid foundation of the general principles of anesthesia. The clerkships are open to UCI School of Medicine medical students and medical students visiting from other medical schools. Medical students will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of surgical cases and experience the broad scope of the anesthesia practice. All clerkship clinical teaching is supplemented with attendance at resident lectures (didactic days), medical student case conferences and grand rounds.

In addition, medical students are provided teaching sessions at a comprehensive medical simulation center to further develop hands-on skills and critical thinking during acute situations. Our curriculum is designed to keep pace with the dynamic needs of the medical students and new advances in medical knowledge and technology.
