The UCI Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care welcomes medical students who are interested in pursuing residency training in the field of anesthesiology to experience our welcoming and richly educational clinical environment. Medical students will have the opportunity to engage with our nationally recognized faculty, residents and program leadership.
We are happy you have taken interest in our elective clinical clerkships to experience what the UCI Anesthesiology Residency Program has to offer.
Our anesthesiology clerkships have been designed to provide medical students with a solid foundation of the general principles of anesthesia. The clerkships are open to UCI School of Medicine medical students and medical students visiting from other medical schools. Medical students will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of surgical cases and experience the broad scope of the anesthesia practice. All clerkship clinical teaching is supplemented with attendance at resident didactic days, medical student case conferences and grand rounds.
In addition, medical students participate in high-fidelity simulation sessions to further develop hands-on skills and critical thinking during acute situations. Our curriculum is designed to keep pace with the dynamic needs of the medical students and new advances in medical knowledge and technology.
The two week Introduction to Anesthesia Clerkship provides medical students who are considering specializing in the field of anesthesiology a more informed idea of what the specialty is all about. A brief exposure to anesthesiology and to how an anesthesiologist can best serve as a consultant to other specialists.
