Anesthesiologists with PSH patient

Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH)

The Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) is a continuum of patient-centered care coordinated by a multidisciplinary team. From the time the decision for surgery is made through discharge from the hospital and 30-days beyond, PSH care is centered on the patient instead of the disease or surgical procedure.

UC Irvine Health Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care is leading UC Irvine Health in transforming the way we deliver surgical care. Approximately 60 percent of a hospital’s expenses are related to surgery and procedural care. The PSH model is healthcare reform from the inside by reducing the overall costs associated with healthcare and providing coordinated, protocolized and evidence-based care to our patients. This is a process of eliminating extraneous costs in healthcare.
