Liaison Corps

The UC Irvine Health Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care is divided into 18 subspecialties lead by an anesthesiologist, the liaison. Each anesthesia subspecialty corresponds to a surgical subspecialty. While every anesthesiologist is capable of safely performing anesthesia on any adult, non-cardiac case, the subspecialty model allows anesthesiologists to gain expertise in a group of cases. These subspecialty experts can then be a resource to the rest of the department. The subspecialty model increases knowledge, communication and patient safety.
